Visit of the KRA Group at Heshima
Once again, we had the joy of welcoming a very special group of visitors to our Heshima Rescue Centre: staff members of the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).
Many of the young adults who visited us have their own moving life stories. Some of them grew up – much like many of our children – without family or reliable caregivers and also lived in children’s homes. This makes it all the more inspiring that they now stand strong in their professional lives and came to encourage our children with their stories.
For the third time, the group visited us – their annual visit has now become a wonderful tradition. In personal conversations, the young adults spoke about their past and gave our children an unforgettable message:
“Never give up and believe in yourselves – you can achieve anything if you truly want to!”
After a warm introduction round, we enjoyed a shared meal. Thanks to the group’s generous support and the excellent work of our cooks, a true feast was prepared – with traditional dishes such as pilau, chapati, spinach, chicken, fresh tomatoes, and onions. For dessert, there was a fresh fruit salad. A particularly touching gesture: our guests insisted on serving the food themselves – an act that truly came from the heart.
Strengthened and joyful, we then continued on to the football pitch, where an exciting match against the Komboa Football Club took place – a very special game, as one of our children from Heshima is now playing successfully in this team.
A key figure within the group is Alice, the leader of the initiative. She herself grew up in a children’s home and has managed to build a fulfilling life with her own family and a stable career. With her warm, cheerful personality, she is a true role model – not only for our children but for many in the community. By openly sharing her story, she showed our children: there is a future full of possibilities waiting for you too.
Together we danced, played, laughed – and shared a wonderful day filled with hope, joy, and genuine connection.
To round off the day, the group surprised us with a generous donation of food items such as oil and flour, juices, diapers, and clothing.
On behalf of the entire Heshima team, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to this amazing group.
Your commitment, your support, and your stories give our children strength, hope – and the belief in a brighter future.
We are already looking forward to your next visit! 🌿💚
